Wee Care Day School has operated at Legacy Church for many years, and we know this news of the closure affects families and children in our community. We want to be as clear and transparent as possible about the decisions that led here and the timeline that has brought us to this point.

After much prayer and deliberation, the deacons of Legacy Church voted on February 17 to suspend Wee Care Day School's operation within our facility at the end of the school year. This decision was made prayerfully, weighing our church's mission, our stewardship of a limited facility, and where God is leading Legacy Church in the seasons ahead. It was not a decision about finances, staffing, or dissatisfaction with the program Wee Care has provided. Wee Care has been, and remains, a cost-effective and well-run daycare in Gaston County, and we are grateful for the families and staff who have been a part of it.

In the days following that vote, conversations with the daycare director were centered around discussing what a transition would look like for staff and families. On March 12, Pastor Darin Gibbs informed the daycare staff of the church's decision, and the work of finding a path forward for Wee Care quickly began. A possible new location for Wee Care was found and plans were heading in that direction. 

As that work progressed, our timeline shifted twice to allow more time for a responsible transition:

April 21: An extension was granted, moving the closing timeline to August.

July 14: A further extension was granted, moving the closing timeline to the end of December.

A letter went out on August 3 to communicate these developments.

Since that time, the timeline for the transition moved up further than anticipated. The renovation costs for the new location were much higher than anticipated, which meant the move could not happen in the way that was hoped for. Church leadership was informed by Daycare leadership on August 17 that the closure at Legacy Church would move to October instead of December. Parents were informed of this on August 18.

We remain committed to serving our community and are excited about the future God has in store for Legacy Church.
